Find fitness, OCR, powerlifting, and running events on an interactive map.
I grew up in Lower Saxony, born in 1979, and got my first taste of computers on a Schneider CPC 464 with a datasette — loading games from tape taught me patience that no modern developer bootcamp ever could.
After studying electrical engineering, I spent the next 20 years writing software across defence, logistics, banking, news, and telco. Each industry had its own flavor of complexity, but the fundamentals stayed the same: understand the domain, ship working code, iterate.
Fitexia started out of personal frustration. I do crossfit, follow powerlifting, and sometimes you can even catch me running — but finding all the events that matter to me meant juggling a dozen different websites, each with its own search UX. I wanted one map. So I built it.
The stack is Go on the backend, Next.js on the front, PostgreSQL with PostGIS for the geography, and data from the sources listed below. It's a solo project, built in spare hours, and that's exactly how I like it.
Event data is sourced from the following organizations. All rights to event information remain with the respective rights holders.
